Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People

My 7th screening at Inside Out!  I was a bit worried about being inside a cinema instead of outside with the gorgeous Saturday we had, but it was so totally completely worth it.   It's incredible how easily we forget that images (photography, film, painting) hold the power to represent us and to form our own discourse about ourselves, as well as to misrepresent us and annihilate our history, our stories and our achievements.

This is a fantastic documentary about black photographers and photography about and by black people in North America.  With over 900 photographs that reveal another telling of the story, if you get a chance, watch it.
